Chapter Sixteen
“Vincent, what the hell are you thinking of?” Cyri said while looking at their leader's face and seeing his terrible grin.
“Remember when you said that you wanted to kill Ratliff?” Cyri thought for a few moments until she made a shocking revelation. And she was not the only one that came to the same conclusion.
“Dude,” Job said after he realized what Vincent meant. “We can not kill Ratliff.”
“Why not? Look at what he has done! Look at the lives he has destroyed! Do any of you truly believe that he deserves the life that he was given? Well, I say no!” Everyone in the room was thinking that he has finally gone mad.
“Yes, that is all very true. But what makes you decide who lives and who dies?” Joan asked.
“I decided when that kid in August got severely hurt by him! I decided when I head about what he does! I decided when he killed Fron! I decided that if someone kills another for no Goddamn reason, then they do not deserve to live. I know that by us killing him will make us equal to him. I am aware of that. But remember what we are doing: We are pursuing wrong doing. When you are pursuing wrong doing you will be taking a step away from God. But in his service. The wrong doing that we are pursuing is the murder of Fron and the assault on numerous people that fell under his wrath.” When Vincent looked around, he saw the almost everyone had an expression ranging from shock to discuss to worriment printed on their faces. Thinking that it would be for the best, he left the room to allow them to talk it over.
“Oh, hell no!” Maxine said after Vincent left. “There is no way that on God's Green Earth that I am going to kill anyone for whatever reason!”
“ I understand your concern Maxine,” Jack said. “But think about what Vincent had said. When you think about it, then I strongly agree to go with the plan to kill Ratliff.”
“That is lovely for you to be so strongly opinionated to kill someone. If you want your ass to burn in eternal damnation!” Maxine was starting to know get furious.
“Why don't we just call the police and report what Dumas has heard? Would the be easier?” Zat looked at Dumas.
“Because of the fact that Ratliff and the rest of those fuckers have the power to protect and cover their asses.” Coraline spoke up.
“Then why not go with the original plan of just beating them to a bloody pulp?” Tad looked around.
“Because regardless if we do anything, we will still be under the constant attack and threat of The Children Of Ghettos.” Cyri finally spoke on the matter. Everyone turned their attention towards her. “Now, I am going to agree with Vincent on this matter because I know personally how much he hurts people. I know what he is capable of. So, regardless of what any of you say or do, I am going to kill this mother fucker and bring an end to this reign of terror regardless if you like it or not.” She gave Tad an apologetic glimpse.
“So, I take it I am alone on this matter then?” Maxine looked around and got her answer. “Okay, fine. I see how it is. If that is the case, then I am leaving! I am not going to be part of a group that goes around and kills people! I am better then that. So, all I am going to say is: Fuck you all!” And with that, she got up and stormed the room. Cyri ran after her.
“Woe, woe, woe,” Vincent said when he returned. “Were is the fire at?”
“Apparently, it is Maxine.” Ronnie said. “While you were gone, we were discussing your plan of killing Ratliff. She did not like the idea and then quit the group.” Vincent's face fell into shock and disbelief.
“Shit.” he said as he ran out of the room. After taking a few wrong turns, he heard the screeching roar of Maxine and the soft, reassuring voice of Cyri.
“No Cyri. NO!” She screamed as Cyri tried to convince her to stay. “I am not going to take part in any murder regardless of what I have to do.”
“Please, oh please Maxine.” Cyri said gently. “You do not need to help in us actually murder him. We will probably need your help in another way.”
“Yeah, like what? Seduce him?” Maxine was on the edge of tears. She could not belief that some of her friends were actually going threw with this.
“No Maxine. Not that at all” Both girls literally jumped in shock when they heard Vincent's deep voice from behind them. Maxine had a look of terror. Cyri had a look of hope.
“Then what Hitler?” She screamed at him.
“First off, can you please lower your voice and listen to me?” after a few minutes of Maxine taking deep lung fulls of air, she did end up calming down. “Now, I understand your concern and the over all fact that you do not want to take a part of this operation to assassinate Ratliff. But, we will need your help. While I was gone I formed a plan that will work and for help, I will need your assistance. So, can you please go back into our meeting room and listen to what I have to say? If you like what you hear, then please stay. If you do not, then feel free to walk away.” After thinking and pacing the hallway that they were in, Maxine decided to listen to Vincent's ideas.
It took about thirty minutes (plus questions from the other members) to explain his entire plan of action. Some were disgusted by what he intends to do. Others were intrigued. And for Dumas and Zat, they were excited that their music from their band was going to take a part.
“So, Maxine, your thoughts now?” Vincent said looking up at her.
“Well, after me thinking about it, I figure why not. I mean, if you mean what you say about the plan, then I really can not complain that much at all. So, yeah, I will help take part in the murder of Ratliff.”
“Very good.” Vincent said with a tired sigh. It had been a long, hard day and he figured that it would all be best to just end the meeting their. They already learned one shocking secret, and formed an even more shocking plan of attack. Yes, it has been s shockingly good day.
Vincent breathed a huge sigh as he walked out of Dumas' house. Sense Veronica was not going to be home for a while, he ended up having to walk home. It sucked for Vincent because out of all the now remaining members of The Children Of Darkness, Dumas lived the furthest. While he was walking, he still could not believe how much of his life changed sense when he moved to Denver. It shocked him to no end. But, the moment he arrived at his neighbor hood, his mind was instantly changed.
“I can not believe you!” Tad yelled.
“Tad, I told you before,” Cyri sounded like she was about to start shedding tears. “I want him dead. Why is it that you can not accept that?”
“The part I can not accept has to do with the fact that you decided to join the side of some Hitler wannabe instead of me! I thought I was your friend and now look: you go against everything your closes friend has ever told you!”
“May I ask why do you think that you are my boyfriend? I thought you are dating Coraline?”
“That shit has nothing to do with this! It is all about who do you really trust: Me who was their for you, our some guy that comes into your life after just by chance meeting him on the internet. Well, what will it be?”
“Tad, please, stop this.” Now Cyri was crying. “You are being unfair. I trust you both equally. It is just that, I agree with Vincent more. I agree with his plan of attack. Now, I know that you and I are close. But do not have me start choosing which of my friends I would agree with more. Besides, when it comes down to it, you only helped me out with little things. You do not have any knowledge about what him and me have talked about over the internet when he was known only as Daikaiju.” Tad went and stormed off.
It started to hurt Vincent that Cyri was in tears. He did not know why, it just did. As he was about to walk to her, he was shoved against a near by wall.
“You do anything that would end up hurting her, I will fucking kill you the same way you plan to kill Ratliff. You understand me?” Tad yelled at Vincent. For sucj a small guy, he sure was strong as hell.
“Dude, what the hell is your problem?” Vincent tried to breathe. Tad released and started to run away.
“You do not understand anything at all, do you?” Then he ran away from Vincent. The only thing that was going threw Vincent's mind was what he had done that was so wrong. But he quickly had that thought leave his head as he ran towards a crying Cyri. When he got over to her, she was on the sidewalk, crying as she started walking home.
“Cyri,” No response. “Cyri, please, what is wrong?”
“I do not want to talk about it Vincent.” Cyri said between sobs. So, for a while, they just walked home together in silence. It was starting to haunt Vincent. He could strongly sense that something was deeply disturbed with Cyri, and it kept on hurting him. He knew this was stupid, but, he just could not help it. After about a few minutes, they arrived at Cyri's house.
“Thanks for walking with me.” she said in a small voice.
“Do not worry about it.” He said. “Just, remember: if you ever need someone to talk to, then just find me.” Then, Vincent went up and embraced Cyri in his arms. Cyri felt weird when he hugged her. Vincent felt that it was the right thing to do.
“I will remember. Good night.” Then, Vincent watched Cyri walk into her house before turning to walk into his.
