SHORT FILM REVIEWS (11/13 - 11/19)

VERSES (2000) 7/ 10
This film is nothing but violence, gore, and zombies. The director tries to incorporate this complex plot into the story, only for it to be thinned out by the wonderful choreography of fight scenes, photography of the film, and the magnificent score. This film would have been great if there was more time put into the plot.

PONYO (2010) 8.5/ 10
Out of all the films I have seen of his, this one is the most child friendly of them all. The begin with, the animation is, like all of his other films, beautiful, the overall plot does have a bit of a nice spin, and the voice actors are not that bad. Props goes to Frankie Jonas and Noah Cyrus. Now, this film does have a strong overtone of Pro-Earth and environmental issues. If you can get pass that, then this is a film that is okay. Great to show young kids ages three and up.

VALKYRIE (2009) 3/10
The main problem I have with war films is that they are never exciting. You already know what is going to happen and as such, the film becomes no fun to watch. Almost everything about this film was mediocre at best, and this was just not a well made film. I say only watch this film if you are a fan of Tom Cruise or you just want to know what Operation Valkyrie is.

ASTRO BOY (2009) 4/10
This film is a huge disappointment. The script was bland, the CGI animation was boring, and the spirit and excitement of the original anime is already lost. There were a few (few means two) witty remarks, but overall, very poor. It tires to have a message about machines, but even that fails. Watch only if you are a die hard fan of the original anime.

BLOOD: THE LAST VAMPIRE (2008) 2/10
This is is a disappointment. From being a fan of the original anime short the inspired this film, I had some expectations. This film fails to meet them. This film tries to make the plot more complex by adding in unnecessary subplots that are stupid and unintelligent. I despise this film. If you are interested in watching this film, then just stick with the one hour short.

THE ADVENTURES OF PRISCILLA, QUEEN OF THE DESERT (1994) 9/10
In the genre of films, there is a little over-looked one called midnight movies. If Rocky Horror Picture Show if the God of Midnight movies, then Priscilla is the Jesus. This film has some of the best costumes I have seen in a long while, does have an underlying meaning of prejudice against people that are transsexuals that make this film worth a watch.
